Javier Encinar del Dedo , Ph.D.
Along his scientific career, Javier Encinar del Dedo have used the yeasts Schizosaccharomyces pombe and Saccharomyces cerevisiae as experimental model systems to address important cell biological questions.
In 2005, he succeeded in obtaining a FPI fellowship to start his PhD in the Institute of Microbial Biochemistry (IMB), during this stage, he worked in an endolytic enzyme called Eng2, which he demonstrated involved in the degradation of the ascus wall, necessary for the release of the yeast spores.
In 2013, he moved to Barcelona to start a project in Dra. Elena Hidalgo´s laboratory, this lab is a worldwide reference in studies related to the stress response in S. pombe. During this stage, he published different works about molecular mechanisms that regulate the responses to oxidative stress and iron deprivation.
In 2016, he was awarded with a Juan de la Cierva fellowship to perform a project about molecular mechanisms of endocytic traffic in the laboratory of the Dra. María Isabel Geli, at the Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona.
In 2021, he joined to the laboratory of Dr. Sergio Moreno (Institute of Functional Biology and Genomics, IBGF) to investigate the molecular mechanisms controlled by the Greatwall-Endosulfine-PP2A/B55 pathway that are required to generate the cellular changes necessary to enter a reversible quiescent state.
