Tamihide Matsunaga , Professor
Dr. Tamihide Matsunaga is a professor at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nagoya City University. His research interests are differentiation of pluripotent stem cells and development of microphysiological system. He developed a method to differentiate human iPS cells into hepatocytes, intestinal cells (intestinal epithelial cells and intestinal organoids), and brain microvascular endothelial cells. These cells are expected to use for pharmacokinetic and/or toxicological studies as models of the liver, small intestine, and blood-brain barrier. In particular, human iPS cell-derived intestinal epithelial cells were commercially available and used by pharmaceutical and food companies. Recently, he has been developing a microphysiological system, which is a perfusion device connecting the small intestine and liver.
