Jan kam 2014 zu Leica Microsystems und war als Application Manager für neurowissenschaftliche Anwendungen der Weitfeldmikroskopie verantwortlich. Im Jahr 2017 wurde er Teil des Produktmanagement-Teams für die LAS X-Software für Weitfeldmikroskopie Live Sciences.  Im Jahr 2019 wechselte er als Advanced Workflow Specialist in die Vertriebsorganisation von Leica Microsystems.

Bevor er zu Leica Microsystems kam, war Jan in der Akupunkturforschung mit elektrophysiologischen Techniken tätig. In seiner Doktorarbeit am Max-Planck-Institut (MPI) für Biophysik in Frankfurt am Main untersuchte er den Geruchssinn mit verschiedenen In-vivo-Bildgebungsverfahren.
